EE will offer enhanced 5G to UK customers starting in October 2020.
It also includes the spectrum in low-band it won at the Ofcom auction earlier in the year. It can offer indoor 5G signals at a higher quality with the 700MHz spectrum.
Redditch, Morecambe, and Cramlington have all received improved indoor reception. Customers in these areas will not be charged for it at first. Indoor connectivity should be improved with compatible 5G handsets.
Although there isn’t any information yet about when or where low-band spectrum will continue to be rolled out, EE has pledged that the whole UK will be 5G-enabled by 2028. It is expected that 50% of the UK’s population will have 5G connectivity in 2023.
“We continue to look for ways to provide our customers with the best 5G service possible. By further enhancing the indoor 5G coverage we provide, we’re helping boost the experience for those with the latest smartphones, allowing them to get the most from them in more places across the UK,” said EE’s director of mobile, David Salam.
The UK’s rival networks, including Three (Virgin Media), O2, and Vodafone, hold significant amounts of low-band spectrum. You can also expect their rollouts to provide better indoor coverage over the next few months.
