Samsung’s 108MP camera has so far been limited to Ultra devices, however, that could change in the coming year.

According to reports, Samsung will add a 108MP camera in 2022 to the Galaxy A73 smartphone. Although the Korean outlet did not cite a source, it has a good record of leaks related to Samsung products.

Rumours suggest that this camera will feature optical image stabilization (OIS), consistent with its earlier report that 2022 Galaxy A Series phones will have OIS.

The exact model of the camera sensor that will be used on the Galaxy A73 is unknown. There are no guarantees that the sensor found on Samsung’s Ultra phones will work on the Galaxy A73, BUT, it will still be a better resolution camera than the Galaxy A72’s primary snapper of 64MP.

The downsides and upsides of 108MP camera

108MP sensors provide more detail in broad daylight, even though larger file sizes are required. These sensors have smaller photo-sites than high-end 48MP or 50MP cameras. However, Samsung has used four-in-1 and nine-in-1 pixel-binning to allow for better low-light shots.

A side effect of 108MP sensors being able to shoot at full resolution is that processing times can be longer. Shooting at 108MP took about two seconds for the Galaxy Note 20, Ultra last year. Although this is not a bad thing, mid-range phones tend to have less capable silicon. We hope Samsung optimizes its Galaxy A73’s chipset in this area to keep processing times reasonable.

If you are looking for good quality cameras at a reasonable price, you might want to look into the 2022 Galaxy A series phones.
