High RAM, But Low Scores

The iPhone 13 is almost here, so there isn’t much else happening in phone land. However, the Google Pixel 6 Pro has been popping up on a benchmark to reveal some probable specs.

Geekbench listing of the phone was spotted by GSMArena. It mentions 12GB RAM, a number we have heard rumoured previously. The listing also says Android 12 and gives more information about the Tensor chipset we know the phone uses.

This benchmark shows that it is an octa-core chipset, with two cores at 2.80GHz, two at 2.05GHz, and four at 1.80GHz. These four cores should be useful for tasks that don’t require a lot of power.

The benchmark also includes a single-core score of 414 as well as a multi-core result of 2,074. These results are higher than the 1,617 multi-core score we obtained in our Google Pixel 5 review, but they are still more mid-range than high end.

This is a prerelease benchmark, so the Pixel 6 Pro may score higher when it comes to final software and hardware. We recommend that you take this listing with a grain of salt as the Google Pixel 6 range is still unknown.

The Pixel 6 Pro may not be that powerful.

Although the Google Pixel 6 Pro may achieve higher benchmark scores when it launches, it is unlikely to be as good as the Samsung Galaxy S21 or iPhone 12 (or even the iPhone 13).

Although it remains to be determined how the Tensor chipset will perform, some reports suggest that this chipset is slightly less powerful than the Android alternatives. Other sources, however, disagree and indicate that this is a high-end option.

Google decided to use a mid-range chipset in the Pixel 5 and could indicate that this phone is not as powerful as the best phones.
