It doesn’t matter what reason you have for abandoning Android phones, it can be difficult to figure out how best to transfer your data to an iPhone. Although many of your apps will be compatible with iOS, it is not common for Android data to work well with iPhones.
There’s an app that will help you transfer your data: Move to iOS. This app was launched by Apple back in the days before iOS 9. This app is compatible with any Android version, including 4.0.
You can also go to an Apple Store to get data sent to your new iPhone 12 by them if you are not a techie. The app can be used from your home, provided you are familiar with the basics. Before starting
You will need to factory reset your shiny new iPhone if you have already unboxed it and set it up for this process to work. Only a new iPhone without any data is required to move to iOS. Y
A Handy Tip
Clean your Android phone as thoroughly as you can before the transfer. You can delete any unneeded apps, photos, and media. This is your chance to do a “”smartphone spring cleaning”” and you will be amazed at how many apps you don’t use.
Next, make sure that both devices are powered on, that your Android device is connected via Wi-Fi and that your iOS device has sufficient storage to store the data you wish to transfer (including any SD cards).
Your Android files that are larger than your iPhone’siPhone’s storage will cause the transfer to stop. Unfortunately, the app may not tell you why.
This can be avoided by cleaning out your phone and getting rid of all unnecessary content before using the Move to iOS app. You can also backup files to Google Drive or another cloud storage app and delete them from the phone. These files can be re-downloaded later.
After you have cleared your storage, turn off mobile data from your Android device via Settings > Data. It will immediately cancel any Android-to iOS transfer that you have received a call or opened another app other than Move to iOS.

Prepare your device
After installing Move to iOS, you can turn your iOS/iPadOS device on and begin setting up your iPhone. You will see a Move Data From Android option when you reach the Apps and Data screen. This is the one that you want.
Click that link to create a private Wi-Fi network between your iPhone/iPad and your Android device.
Open the Android app
Open the Move to iOS app on your Android device. After you have gone through all the legal stuff, you will see a Find Your Code screen. Click on the Next link.
Pair your phones
Now, turn back to your iPhone/iPad and you will see a pairing code which you can enter in Move to iOS. It works the same way as pairing a Bluetooth device. Simply enter the code and Move to iOS will pair your iPhone or iPad with it.
Choose what to transfer
The Move to iOS app allows you to transfer six types of data from your phone: your contacts, your message history, your photos and videos from camera roll, your web bookmarks, your calendar and your email account.
Each of the six options will be checked by default for transfer; however, you have the option to uncheck any of them if you don’t want them copied. Make your selections.
Apple will also try to locate iOS equivalents to your free apps. This means that if the app is in both Google Play or Apple’sApple’s App store, it will attempt to find it so you can easily download them after your data has been transferred. It won’t transfer any data from your Android device for apps it finds.
Have a cup of tea
You might have a lot of photos or videos to transfer. The Android app may appear to be finished while your iOS device shows a progress bar.
The iOS device must tell you that the transfer is complete. You must not navigate away from either of the apps until then. It will cancel the transfer and you have to do it again. Your Android phone should be turned off so that you don’t lose your transfer.
The contents of a watchful pot do not boil, nor do the contents of a watched phone. You can leave your phone where it won’t be tempting to play with it and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while you wait.
Compare and contrast your smartphones
Ensure everything has been properly transferred before you play with your iPhone, or even wipe your Android phone. The Move to iOS app will not tell you if there isn’t enough space.
It is good to check the data categories you have transferred, such as your message history or contact list. You must ensure that nothing is missing.
Transfer the rest of your files manually
Moving to iOS does not transfer all files. Music files, ebooks and PDFs, and cloud documents, will need to be manually transferred. Apple offers a guide to help you get your Android-specific files working on iOS.
This process involves connecting your Android phone to your computer. Next, transfer any files to the computer and then plug your iPhone into the computer.
You can sync your iPhone’s music library with iTunes/ Apple Music. Apple Books ebooks are also available. You can copy all your files to one folder on your computer. Then, sync your iPhone Files to that folder so that it receives copies.
Install Your Apps
Move to iOS won’t find all of your apps or if you have paid apps. In these cases, you will need to search for them in the App Store on your iPad or iPhone. You can also find almost all of the top-rated Android apps on iOS and iPadOS.
Subscription apps like Spotify and Netflix don’t require you to pay again. All you have to do is log in with your account details and you can pick up where you left off on Android.
However, for paid-for apps such as games that you may have purchased on the Play Store you will need to re-buy it in the App Store.
Many of the top-rated apps on Android can also be found on iOS. If an iOS version is not available, it’s almost always a very similar alternative.
Factory reset your Android
After getting all the information you need out of your phone, you can wipe it to safely recycle or sell it. This process will differ from one Android phone to the next, but you can generally start by plugging your phone in and opening the Settings menu.
Most phones require you to go to Settings > General Management > Advanced > Reset > All data. You’ll need to go to Settings > General Management > Reset> Factory data reset on a Samsung phone.
You’ll then need to enter either a PIN (or password) to access your Samsung phone and confirm that you would like to delete everything.
This process can take some time, so make sure to first plug your phone in. Once that’s completed, you can move on to iOS.
