How to use Portrait Mode on FaceTime calls using iPhone 15

Soon, iPhone users will want to learn how to use Portrait Mode on FaceTime on iOS 15.

FaceTime in iOS 15 has many improvements. You can share videos and music via SharePlay, schedule calls, and create web links just like you can with other video chat apps. FaceTime also offers lesser-known enhancements, such as the ability to use Portrait Mode for calls.

This is the same Portrait Mode that you use in Camera to capture memorable photos. iOS 15 adds it to FaceTime video calls. This effect blurs your background and, while it may not be as striking as other video chat apps (no virtual backgrounds here), it can at most obscure a messy area.

Portrait mode in FaceTime requires iPhones with the A12 Bionic chip and later. iPhone XS and later are required for iPhones.

The feature works with iPads of all generations, including the fifth-generation iPad mini, third-generation iPad Air or later, eighth-generation iPad or later, and all iPad Pro versions. This is a complete list of iOS 15 features that require specific hardware.

Use our guide to learn how to use Portrait Mode on FaceTime for iOS 15.

How to use FaceTime in Portrait Mode on iOS 15

1. Tap the thumbnail of your image while you are in FaceTime video calls.

2.The thumbnail will expand and show several buttons. Tap the Portrait Mode button at the top left corner.

3. Now you’re in Portrait Mode. This is evident by the blurred background on your FaceTime, but your face remains unchanged.

4. To disable Portrait Mode so that you can unblur the background in FaceTime (or any other mode), simply tap the Portrait Mode button.

That’s it. Portrait Mode. This is a valuable addition to iOS that allows you to make FaceTime calls even when you’re busy tidying up your room.
