  • powerful updates to help users focus and explore.
  • FaceTime updates offer more natural video calls,
  • Focus reduces distractions,
  • New features such as Live Text use on-device intelligence to surface helpful information.
  • Maps upgrades provide new ways to navigate the globe.

iOS 15 is now available as a free update.

Enhancements to Make FaceTime Calls More Natural

FaceTime is essential for users, allowing them to connect easily with those who are most important. FaceTime’s audio and video features have been enhanced to make calls more natural and human-like. Spatial audio makes calls sound more natural and lifelike by allowing voice to be heard in the same direction as the person speaking. Wide Spectrum lets you hear every bit of background sound. Portrait mode, inspired by stunning portrait photos taken with iPhones, blurs a user’s background and makes them the focal point.2 Wide Spectrum, Voice Isolation and Portrait can be used with third-party apps like Webex, Zoom and WhatsApp. You can display group members in the same size tiles in a new grid view with Group FaceTime.

FaceTime calls are now available beyond Apple devices. Anyone using an Android or Windows phone can join the call from their web browser. FaceTime calls over the internet are encrypted from end to end, so privacy isn’t compromised. iPhone, iPad and Mac users can create a FaceTime Link and then share it via Messages or Calendar, Mail, third-party apps, or both. This makes it much easier to stay in touch with family and friends.

SharePlay, which will be available in Autumn this year, allows users to share their experiences with family and friends via FaceTime. This includes listening to music, watching TV, sharing screens to view apps, and even watching movies together. SharePlay works with Apple Music, Apple TV+ and Apple Fitness+ as well as Disney+ and other apps such as Hulu MasterClass, Paramount+ and Pluto TV. SharePlay is accessible via iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android. SharePlay allows anyone to play, pause and jump ahead of any SharePlay session. SharePlay can even be extended to Apple TV so that users can view movies and shows on a large screen.

Stay connected with messages in more ways.

The new section Shared With You appears in Photos, Safari and Apple News. It displays photos, articles and music, as well as other content that family and friends have shared in Messages. Shared With You displays the photos you have shared in the Photos app and the news stories from Apple News. You can view the message associated with the content and start a conversation by going to the Shared With You section.

iOS 15 brings Memoji even more options for users to express their feelings with multicoloured headwear and more styles of glasses. There are also new accessibility options such as cochlear implants and oxygen tubes. You can customise Memoji stickers with over 40 outfit options, nine new sticker poses, including a hand wave, shaka and light bulb moment.

iOS 15 introduces Focus.

This is a new feature that helps users to reduce distractions by filtering notifications according to what they are currently focusing on. The Work Focus can be set to allow only notifications from coworkers and apps used for work. The Personal Focus can also be used when taking a break or working out with friends. You can either create your own Focus or choose from a pre-made one. On-device intelligence uses this information to determine which notifications are permitted. Users can also create Home Screen pages that contain relevant widgets and apps to help them focus.

Focus automatically displays a status to contacts via Messages or third-party communication apps such as Slack. This helps them know when to stop interrupting. Based on location and time, users will receive suggestions on how to turn on Focus. Focus can also be applied to all Apple devices if it is set on one Apple device.

Focus allows users to filter notifications to reduce distractions. It uses a custom Focus or a suggested Focus such as Work or Fitness.

The Notifications Industry Gets a Fresh Look

The notification design has been updated with contact photos for people and larger icons for applications to make them easier to recognise. Notification summary is a list of all notifications that are sent each day at the time set by the user. The summary is organised by priority using on-device information. Users who interact with apps will see the most relevant notifications at the top. Users will receive timely notifications, messages and phone calls immediately. It’s also easy to temporarily mute any app or messaging thread for an entire hour or a whole day.

On-Device Intelligence delivers Live Text, Advanced Spotlight Search and Memories

Live text makes text in photos interactive. Live text recognises text in photos using on-device intelligence. It allows users to copy, paste, look up information and translate. To open Safari, users can tap on the image of a number or click on the address. The Camera app’s Neural Engine can quickly recognise and copy text, such as the Wi-Fi password displayed in a coffee shop. Visual Look Up allows users to learn more about famous art, landmarks and books, as well as information on plants, flowers, animals, and breeds.

Spotlight, the universal way to start iPhone searches, can now be accessed directly via the Lock Screen. It includes the ability to search for photos by location, people or scenes, as well as objects. Spotlight uses Live Text to find handwriting and text in photos.

iOS 15 brings the most significant update to Memories. New cinematic Memories features a new interface and interactive interface. They also integrate with Apple Music, which uses on-device intelligence for music suggestions. This makes it easier to recall favourite moments or forget them.

Redesigned Weather Experience

The new design for Weather features full-screen maps and graphical displays of data. It also includes dynamic layouts that adapt to changing conditions. Beautifully animated backgrounds better reflect the sun’s position, clouds and precipitation. Notifications indicate when rain or snow are about to begin or stop.

The Weather app has undergone a redesign to incorporate full-screen maps as well as dynamic layouts that can change according to weather conditions.

Notes allow users to create tags that help them quickly categorise notes or mentions. This makes it easier for members to share notes to communicate important updates. The Activity view displays the most recent history of a shared notebook, while Highlights provides details about who made the changes. Notes allow you to view and edit Quick Notes that have been created on Mac or iPad.

Notes allows users to create tags that allow them to quickly categorise notes according to the relevant content.

More Privacy Controls

The privacy features that are being developed now give users more control and transparency over what data they provide to apps. Mail Privacy Protection protects senders from knowing whether an email was opened. It also hides IP addresses to prevent senders from finding out a user’s exact location. This allows senders to create a profile of the user and can block them from accessing their location. Siri’s protection for user privacy extends to on-device speech recognition. Users’ audio requests are processed entirely on the device by default. This allows Siri to provide more personalisation, offline request processing, and faster performance.

Additional Features

Siri now adds Announce Notifications to AirPods, allowing users to simply ask Siri to share what’s on the screen. Siri can now also be enabled in third party HomeKit accessories. HomePod mini and HomePod mini owners can ask Siri to set reminders, send messages, or broadcast Intercom messages to their family members from other devices.

iCloud+

iCloud+ combines all the best features of iCloud, such as Hide My E-mail, expanded HomeKit Secure Video support and an innovative new privacy service, iCloud Privacy Relay.8 All current iCloud storage subscribers will automatically be upgraded to iCloud+ at no additional cost. All iCloud+ plans are available to be shared with members of the same Family Sharing group. This allows everyone to enjoy the enhanced experience, storage and new features that come with the service.

A new sharing tab is available in the Health app that allows users to share their health data to family members, caregivers, or care teams. Trends allow users to focus their attention on meaningful changes to their personal health metrics. Walking Steadiness, a new metric, empowers users to manage their fall risk. The Health app also allows users to save verifiable COVID-19 vaccine or test results records, which can be accessed at any time.

Translate

Translate now includes an Auto Translate feature. This automatically detects when someone speaks and translate it without having to tap the microphone button. This allows for conversations across languages to flow naturally. It is possible to translate text from any iPhone using systemwide translation by simply selecting the item and tapping Translate.

The new iPhone setup is easier than ever to get started using iPhone.

iPhone users who have an iPhone can back up their data to iCloud temporarily to transfer to a new iPhone. 9 For iPhone users moving to iPhone for the first time, the Move to iOS experience makes it easy to move photos, files, folders and Accessibility settings to iPhone. iPhone feels more personal from the beginning.
