Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro is now available. It comes with a few small but important upgrades.

The Apple iPhone 13 Pro is the third of four new iPhones revealed at Apple’s September 2021 event. It looks the best, but not in terms of its design and looks.

The iPhone 13 Pro looks very similar to the iPhone 12 Pro at first glance. It has rounded corners and squared-off edges, and a flat-slabbed front- and rear. However, if you dig deeper, you will see a more complex picture.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro preview: New features and First Impressions

Apple has kept the design of the iPhone 13 the same as the rest of its new range but introduced a few carefully selected upgrades. First, the iPhone 13 has a narrower than usual notch. Although it’s still there, it’s a pity that it’s not gone. However, this is better than nothing.

The iPhone 13 Pro’s display has the same resolution and size as last year. It measures 6.1in across with 1,170×2,532 pixels. However, the refresh rate is increased from 60Hz to 120Hz. Apple’s ProMotion technology adapts the refresh rate to your current activities.

Apple also announced an internal upgrade to its new Apple A15 Bionic 6nm processor. This Apple claims can run CPU operations up to 50% faster than the main competitors. To accommodate a larger-capacity battery, the phone is slightly heavier and thicker than last year’s.

You’ll get 1.5 hours more battery life per charge due to the increased efficiency and larger battery. It’s not much, but it’s still better than nothing.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro preview: Cameras

The camera is the most significant upgrade to the iPhone 13 Pro. The selection is similar to last year’s, with three cameras at the rear and one selfie camera at the front. An ultrawide camera, a zoom lens and a telephoto zoom are attached to the main camera at rear. All three can produce 12MP images and can record Dolby Vision video at 4K at 60fps.

The Pro has the same tech as its larger brother last year, but it did not get the best camera upgrades. This means that the Pro has a larger sensor and f/1.5 aperture, as well as sensor-shift stabilisation technology for its main camera. It also features an ultrawide camera with improved low light performance, macro capabilities, and autofocus.

Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 Pro’s Telephoto Lens is still not as powerful as those on Android. Although the zoom range of 3x is greater than last year’s 2, it is still far behind Android devices with better zoom lenses. Apple still has a lot of work ahead.

The iPhone 13 Pro’s video quality is what sets it apart from its Android competitors. Apple has added even more capabilities to the iPhone this year. The Cinematic Mode creates fancy rack focus effects without any input from the user. Later in the year, ProRes video will also be available. This feature is only available in the 1TB storage model.

Apple iPhone 13 Pro preview: Early verdict

Although it may look like a light update, the Apple iPhone 13 Pro is packed with many improvements. The new A15 Bionic chip will make it faster than last year’s iPhone. It also looks more modern with its narrower notch. The larger battery may provide better stamina, but this is not guaranteed.

These improvements to the cameras make it more compatible with the iPhone Pro Max. This means that those who can’t live with the largest or heaviest iPhones no longer have to compromise features in order to get the iPhone they want.

This might make you want to upgrade. Pre-orders will open on September 15th 2021, and units will ship by Friday September 24th.
