Apple today unveiled iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones, expanding the possibilities of smartphones.
Both models have been redesigned from the inside out.
The new Super Retina XDR displays with ProMotion feature an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz. This makes touch more responsive and faster. New Ultra-Wide, Wide and Telephoto cameras give the pro camera system its most significant advancement. These new cameras capture amazing photos and video thanks to the unparalleled performance of the A15 Bionic. This is more powerful than any other leading competitor.
These technologies allow for incredible new photo capabilities that were not possible before on iPhone. For example, macro photography can be done with the Ultra-Wide camera. The Wide camera has a 2.2x better low-light performance. The Camera app now supports Photographic Styles, which personalises the appearance of photos. Both models also include Night mode.
Cinematic mode is a major step forward in video. It allows for stunning depth-of-field transitions and macro video, Timelapse, Slo-mo and Time-lapse, as well as better low-light performance. The models offer Dolby Vision and ProRes for an end-to-end professional workflow. This is the first time ProRes has been made available to iPhone users. iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max both include 5G, which provides better coverage and big battery life improvements. The iPhone 13 Pro Max has a storage capacity of 1TB and the Ceramic Shield front covering, which is tougher than any smartphone glass.
The New iPhone 13 comes in a Variety of Colours
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max will come in four unique finishes: Graphite Gold, Silver, and the brand-new Sierra Blue.
“iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max are our most professional iPhone lineups ever. They have the greatest advancements in our camera system, the longest battery life ever in an iPhone, and any iPhone’s fastest performance. This sets a new standard for iPhones and allows for incredible experiences never before possible,” Greg Joswiak (Apple’s senior vice-president of Worldwide Marketing). The new pro camera system has even more pro-photo capabilities, including improved telephoto zoom, macro photography and Photographic Styles. It also offers cinematic mode, ProRes and Dolby Vision video. Our best display, the Super Retina XDR with ProMotion, intelligently responds and delivers terrific graphics performance. It is ideal for all viewing experiences.
Camera
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a brand new Ultra-Wide camera with autofocus that allows macro photography on iPhone. There is also a new Wide camera and a Telephoto camera with increased 3x optical Zoom.
The iPhone 13 Pro line features the most advanced camera system on iPhone. It includes new sensors and lenses for each of the three rear cameras. They are optimised for iOS 15 and powered with the new image signal processor (ISP), in A15 Bionic, for better noise reduction and tone mapping.
The new Wide camera features a larger sensor, with 1.9um pixels. This is the largest iPhone ever and allows for more detail. The Wide camera on iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max offer a significant improvement in low light situations. It is nearly 1.5x more effective than the iPhone 12 Pro Max and 2.2x better than the iPhone 12 Pro. OIS (sensor-shift optical image stability) is a unique feature of iPhone. It stabilises the sensor rather than the lens to ensure smooth images and steady video, even when the user’s not there.
The new Wide camera can capture up to 2.2x and is much lighter than previous models.
The new Wide camera is the most powerful iPhone camera ever with 1.9um pixels.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a larger Wide camera sensor that produces less noise and allows for faster shutter speeds to suit different lighting conditions.
Both models have sensor-shift OIS so videos and images are smooth and steady even when the user’s not there.
Smart HDR 4 brings photos to life by enhancing colour, contrast and lighting. This is even true for group shots.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a new Ultra-Wide camera that offers a 92 per cent improvement in low-light conditions.
New Ultra-Wide cameras feature a wider aperture at f/1.8 and an improved autofocus system. This allows for images to be sharper and brighter in low-light conditions. Advanced software, a new lens design and autofocus capabilities for the Ultra-Wide iPhone allow macro photography. Sharp, beautiful images can be captured where objects seem larger than life. Users can magnify subjects up to 2 centimetres. Macro can also be used to capture video, including Slo-mo or Time-lapse. iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max both have a new Telephoto camera with a 77mm lens. This allows users to get even closer to their subjects, record video, and create more classically framed portraits. The camera system offers 3x optical zoom and a total of 6x optical zoom.
Macrology is now possible with the Ultra-Wide camera’s new lens design, autofocus capabilities, and software integration.
Smartphone Video: A Huge Advance
Cinematic mode for iPhone is a result of extensive research in cinematography and the use of rack focus. It records videos of people, pets and objects with beautiful depth effects and automatic focus changes. Anyone can capture cinema-style moments even if they’re not a professional filmmaker. You can adjust the focus during and after the capture. The Photos app and iMovie iOS can also be used to adjust the bokeh. This makes the iPhone lineup the only one that can edit depth-of-field effects in video after it has been recorded. Cinematic mode records in DolbyVision HDR thanks to A15 Bionic and advanced machine-learning algorithms.
iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max both introduce ProRes2, an advanced video codec widely used as the final delivery format for commercials and feature films. iPhone is the only smartphone to offer an end-to-end workflow: capture, edit and share in DolbyVision or ProRes.
Super Retina XDR w/ ProMotion: A brighter, more responsive display
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max feature the most advanced display on iPhone. Super Retina XDR w/ ProMotion supports an adaptive refresh rate of 10Hz to 120Hz. This allows for faster frame rates and preserves battery life when needed.
The new, intelligent display is available in a 6.1-inch or 6.7-inch size.4 It leverages an efficient OLED panel, new display engine from A15 Bionic, faster GPU performance and was custom designed for iOS 15. This makes gestures, animations and other activities such as gaming feel quicker and more responsive. The iPhone’s brightest display, with a maximum outdoor brightness of 1000 nits and up to 25% higher, is available in both 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. Users will enjoy amazing colour, contrast, resolution, and colour while browsing the web or watching HDR videos.
New Design Inside and Out, Durable Design and a Big Leap in Battery Life
The new Proline features a premium flat-edge design. It is made with high-quality materials such as surgical-grade stainless metal bands. The models come in four striking colours, including the new Sierra Blue. These models have multiple nanometre-scale metallic clays applied to the surface to create a durable and stunning finish. The Ceramic Shield front cover protects the iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max. It is exclusive to iPhone.
It is stronger than any smartphone glass and offers incredible durability and drop performance. The TrueDepth camera system is housed in 20 percent less area than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Both models have more viewing space but still include innovative technologies such as Face ID, which provides the most secure facial authentication available on a smartphone. The Pro line-up features a new rear camera system with a beautiful stainless steel trim around each sapphire-clear lens. It also has an industry-leading IP68 rating, which protects against liquid spillage.
Inside, the iPhone 13 Pro Max offers the longest battery life of any iPhone. It features A15 Bionic, larger batteries, more efficient components, and power optimisations. iPhone 13 Pro can last for up to 1 and 1/2 hours more than iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 13 Pro Max can last for up to 2 and a quarter hours more than iPhone 12 Pro Max.
5G Experiences Available in More Places
The world is moving quickly to 5G and iPhone offers a superior 5G experience that transforms the way people connect, share and enjoy the content. The iPhone 13 Pro’s customised hardware design features more 5G bands. This allows it to work in more significant areas on 5G for better coverage and performance.7
There are over 200 5G carriers in 60 countries and regions worldwide. You can enjoy higher-quality video streaming, better competition in multi-player games and faster download and upload speeds. SharePlay8 on iOS 15 will allow for powerful shared experiences like watching HDR movies and TV shows with friends while you are on FaceTime. Smart Data mode intelligently conserves battery life by switching iPhone to LTE automatically when 5G speeds are not needed.

iOS 15 improves the iPhone experience by offering new ways to stay connected and powerful features that allow users to focus, explore and do more with their on-device intelligence. FaceTime calls are more natural thanks to spatial audio and a new portrait mode. New Focus features help reduce distractions, notifications have been redesigned, and Live Text uses onboard intelligence to recognise text in a photograph and allows users to take action.
Apple Maps offers beautiful new ways to navigate the world and explore it with an enhanced three-dimensional experience for driving and walking. The new design of weather features includes full-screen maps and more graphical data displays.
