Google is developing a new app called “Switch to Android” for iPhone users to copy data to their new phone.
Google appears to be working on an app to allow iPhone users to transfer data to their Android phones. Rather inventively, it’s called “Switch to Android”. It will enable Apple iOS users to transfer their apps, contacts, media, and other data from their iPhone to their new Android device. It’s rumoured to be wireless.
9to5Google discovered the details and took apart APK to find mention of the app as well as some hints about how it works.
This one is different from the existing data transfer method that is part of the setup process for Pixel phones.
It appears to be a download app from the Play Store or iOS App Store. It also appears to work over Wi-Fi, much like the Clone Phone apps from Oppo and Huawei.
You can download these apps, such as Oppo’s Clone Phone, onto your Android phone. Then scan a QR code using a camera to tell the phone to connect to the device as a Wi-Fi hotspot.
After you have connected, you can choose which items you wish to copy. This includes all SMS messages, photos, videos, and music, as well as calendar events. Confirm, and everything will be transferred wirelessly.
The only difference here is that these apps are manufacturer specific and don’t always work for iPhone.
Samsung’s Smart Switch App is the closest thing currently in existence. It allows you to copy almost everything from your iPhone onto a new Samsung phone.
Google should release an app that allows you to transfer between iPhones and Androids, regardless of manufacturer. This is a smart move considering that more people are buying phones from companies such as Xiaomi.
