You might be thinking about which new flagships to buy if you are considering upgrading your iPhone or switching from Android.

The iPhone 11 was released in September 2019. It is packed with impressive specs and remains one of the most powerful (and advanced) iPhones available. Apple launched the iPhone 12 series in October 2020. It boasts even more premium specs, but at a higher cost. We will be comparing the strengths and weaknesses of both iPhones.

Design & Display

The iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 appear very similar at first glance. Both feature Apple’s unique smartphone design. iPhone 12 is flat and rounded, made of surgical-grade stainless, but iPhone 11 is convex and made from aerospace-grade aluminium.

The earlier model had a hard, Gorilla Glass back and front. However, the iPhone 12 has a Ceramic Shield front that provides 4x more drop performance, making the device slightly more water-resistant, able to withstand submersion in as much as 6m of water for 30 min.

iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD LCD display. This device is an excellent choice for those who value vivid colours and crystal clear graphics. The iPhone 12 display is a similar size at 6.1 inches. However, it’s a Super Retina XDR LCD display with an 86% display-to-body ratio, which makes it ideal for immersive viewing when you’re streaming or gaming while on the move.

Camera

These iPhones have a dual-lens system rear camera, including one 12MP wide lens, one 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 12MP selfie cam. Both devices make it easy to get the entire gang together for a group shot. With a 5x digital zoom, close-up shots will be stunning.

There are various photography modes available on iPhone 11 or 12, including Night Mode and Deep Fusion. Portrait mode allows you to keep your subject in the centre and create an artfully blurred background.

Both phones can record 4K video, but iPhone 12 has the added ability to record HDR video using Dolby Vision. This can allow you to get professional-looking footage in a fraction of the time. iPhone 12 includes Night mode Time-lapse that captures the beauty of sunsets without losing any colour.

Power

There are many key differences between iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 when it comes to power. The A13 Bionic powers iPhone 11. This processor has 8.5 billion transistors and can perform all your everyday tasks. It can also keep complex AI apps running smoothly.

iPhone 12, however, features the next-generation A14 Bionic, which is the fastest ever integrated into a smartphone. This device’s end-to-end performance is enhanced by the A14 Bionic, making it more powerful, faster, and increases battery efficiency.

The 12 also has a 5G-ready handset. This means that when you are in a supported region, you can enjoy lag-free gaming, fast download speeds, and clear FaceTime connections. All this without draining your battery.

Both iPhones are running the latest version of Apple’s operating system – iOS 14. The most recent version includes exciting new features, including home-screen widgets, allowing you to pin more detailed versions of your favourite apps to your home screen. This now consists of the weather, your calendar, and other information.

The App Library is another update that allows you to catalogue your apps in a new way for easy access. Picture in Picture also lets you keep a video chat open while reading the news or writing an email.

Battery

iPhone 11 uses a Li-Ion 3,110mAh battery, while iPhone 12 uses a Li-Ion 2,815 Cell. Both models can still achieve 65 hours of audio and 17hrs video playback. No matter which flagship you choose, your phone will keep you going no matter what, regardless of whether you are tracking your morning run or taking a taxi home after a meal out.

Both handsets can also be charged wirelessly using any Qi-certified charger or 20W quick charging.
