iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12 – Design and display

The iPhone 13 and the iPhone 12 are very similar in design. There is one exception to this rule. The notch on the iPhone 13 is smaller than the iPhone 12 and it’s visible on all four models. The phones look the same with the same flat edges as the iPhone 13 and Ceramic Shield displays to ensure greater durability.

New models are lighter due to the larger batteries Apple has added with the iPhone 13. There are also new colour options. The pink model joins the iPhone 13 mini’s black (Midnight), starlight (Starlight), and blue models. Sierra Blue is the new colour in the iPhone 13 Pro line-up. It joins graphite and gold options.

Apple’s biggest change from the iPhone 12 is in its displays, though the iPhone 13 lineup uses the same AMOLED panels as the iPhone 12. Apple promises brighter displays, 28% brighter than the iPhone 12 screens. The iPhone 13 and 13 mini are capable of producing 800 nits, while the iPhone 13 Pro models can crank out 1,000 nits.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the first Apple phones to feature ProMotion displays. They can adjust their refresh rate dynamically between 10Hz and120Hz to match your screen activity. The iPhone 12 Pro models kept 60Hz at 60Hz. This is the same rate as the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini and iPhone 12 mini.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the first Apple phones to feature ProMotion displays.

iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12: Cameras

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 have different cameras, even though the number of lenses is the same from one phone to the next. It’s Apple’s camera hardware that has made the iPhone 13’s camera experience so much better.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini both have a 12MP main camera, which is the largest ever used in dual-camera iPhones. For sharper photos, it should allow in 47% more light than the iPhone 12 camera. The sensor-shift optical imaging stabilization feature Apple has added to the iPhone 12 Pro Max last year is available on these two iPhone 13 models. This ultra-wide lens promises greater detail in darker areas.

The iPhone 13 Pro models have even more dramatic camera changes. The iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a larger main sensor. This allows for better low-light images. Meanwhile, the ultrawide angle lens has an f/1.8 aperture. It was f/2.4 for the iPhone 12 Pro models. This will result in sharper images even at low light levels. The iPhone 13 Pro models have a 77mm telephoto lens that offers a 3x optical zoom. This is an improvement on the 2.5x zoom on the iPhone 12 Pro.

Night Mode is available on all three iPhone 13 Pro cameras. The iPhone 13 Pro also offers sensor-shift stabilization instead of restricting that feature to the Pro Max model. We are eager to see the results of all these changes.

iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12 – Performance and 5G

All iPhone 13 models use the A15 Bionic processor. This is an upgrade to the A14 Bionic chip used in all iPhone 12 models. The A14 was our fastest system-on-chip, so that should translate into some very powerful performance. However, we will need to benchmark the phones in order to determine how fast they are.

The iPhone 13 Pro models have a 5-core GPU compared to the 4-core graphics processor of the regular iPhone 13. The Pro models should be a powerful gaming machine, especially when compared to the iPhones last year.

Apple claims that the iPhone 12 had some of the best 5G compatibility, but the new phones will support more 5G bands. Apple claims that 5G support for iPhone 13 models will increase to 200 carriers in 60 countries by the end of this year.

iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12 – Battery life and charging

Apple does not disclose the battery size of new phones. Therefore, we do not know the iPhone 13’s battery capacity relative to their iPhone 12 counterparts. We do know they are larger, which should mean longer battery life.

This is good news. The iPhone 12 Pro Max and all other iPhone 12 models finished below average in our battery testing, in which phones are allowed to surf the internet over cellular until they run low on power.

Apple claims that the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Mini will last 1.5 hours longer than their iPhone 12 counterparts. iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max Max offer 2.5 hour improvement. If true, then the iPhone 13 Pro Max will be on our top phone battery life list.

The iPhone 12’s charging speeds remain the same: 15W MagSafe wireless charging, 20W wired charging. The iPhone 13 models, like the iPhone 12, will come without a charger.
