Although the iPhone 13 was just revealed, it doesn’t necessarily mean Apple isn’t working behind closed doors on the iPhone 14. Given the surprising number of leaks so far, we have a good idea of what Apple could be doing for its flagship range in 2022.
If the rumours are true, it could actually be an even more exciting upgrade to the iPhone 13. Current rumours point towards a possible redesign, removal or a vastly improved camera setup, and possibly a redesign of the Face ID.
We’ve compiled all the information we have about the iPhone 14, including pricing predictions and release dates.
When will the iPhone 14 go on sale?
Apple’s iPhone 13 has just been officially revealed by Apple, so it is still a while before the release of the next-gen iPhone 14.
Although there aren’t any confirmed rumours at the moment, iPhone releases tend not to occur in September, with the exception of 2020, due to the pandemic. With that in mind, we expect the iPhone 14 range will be released sometime after September 2022.

What is the cost of the iPhone 14?
Although it’s too early to make any predictions about pricing, the good news is that the iPhone 13 range will be priced the same as the previous year, even though Apple’s 2021 chip shortages have increased the cost of components. Although this does not necessarily mean that we will see the same pricing next year, it is a sign that Apple is doing its best to keep its current price.

What can you expect from the iPhone 14 range?
Although the iPhone 14 is still a year away, we have a rough idea about what it will look like – and it seems exciting if current rumours hold true.
Redesigned form
Jon Prosser, a well-known Apple leaker, has provided the best images of the iPhone 14 and a YouTube video detailing the entire range. Prosser claimed to have seen images from the iPhone 14 Pro Max prototype and collaborated with Ian Zelbo, a render artist, to create these images. These images seem to show an updated design.
Prosser and renders suggest that the iPhone 14 range could eliminate the camera bump altogether and feature a flush trio on the rear. This is possible thanks to an increase in the thickness of the smartphone range.
This design is very close to the iPhone 12/iPhone 4 merger – an even stronger comparison. These have not been seen on the range since the iPhone 4. This is also the first iPhone to feature glass on the top of the antenna bands instead of protruding from the sides.
Prosser claims that the chassis will be made of titanium, previously confirmed by JP Morgan Chase analysts.
Prosser and his colleagues chose the renders to show the design, even though there are many colours. Prosser insists that the photos were taken with a gold iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, he suggests that the colour may change when production arrives next year.
Prosser’s renderings show that it will have a Lightning port. We might have to wait until the iPhone 15 to see if this is true.
We are still over a year from any potential release. Prosser’s information may be accurate, but plans could change drastically in the next twelve months. So, take this with a big grain of salt.
No Face ID notch anymore
In March 2021, Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, made predictions for the iPhone 13. It was also the iPhone 14, but it was called the 2022 iPhone.
The analyst suggested in a note to investors that certain iPhone 14 models could be stripped of the notch housing the Face ID smarts. The notch has been on every iPhone since the iPhone X. Apple reduced the size of the iPhone 13 by 20%, but it is still present on all iPhones.
Kuo claims that the Pro models will have a “punch hole” cutout for the front camera. However, Face ID functionality will still be available, allowing for a nearly full-screen viewing experience.
Jon Prosser, a notorious leaker, later supported the claim. He showed a series of renders of the “iPhone 14 Pro Max”, which was revealed just days before the iPhone 13. They show a centrally located hole-punch cutout.
TThere won’t be a notch or hole-punch camera but somewhat thicker bezels that will completely house the Face ID technology and front-facing camera.
He also disapproves of Prosser’s suggestion that the iPhone 14 would feature a flush-mounted camera module. Prosser claims that it isn’t flush in any of the current prototypes. Let’s get ready for the battle of the leakers!
Camera improvements
The iPhone 14 Pro range will feature a new 1/1.3in 48MpCMOS image sensor to replace the primary wide-angle lens. Camera improvements are almost a given with every iPhone update. The new sensor may offer hybrid operating modes that can improve pixel size or light-gathering capabilities.
Kuo believes the new 2H22 iPhone could support 48MP output and 12MP (four cell merge output mode). Although pixel binning is a method of merging pixels to improve quality, it is not a new concept among Android users. However, it is possible to capture both simultaneously.
This is not the end of it. Kuo claims that the CIS pixel size for the 2H22 iPhone 12MP is approximately 2.5um. This is significantly more than the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, larger than other Android phones, and close to DSC levels.
Kuo believes it will improve image quality and allow 8K video capture. This is a massive jump over the 4K available right now. However, he does not detail possible framerates.
4nm chipset
Apple’s A15 Bionic, the heart of the iPhone 13, runs on a 5nm process. These improvements offer greater efficiency and power than the 5nm A14 Bionic. However, the changes aren’t as dramatic as those made to the A14 Bionic.
However, that’s about to change with the iPhone 14, according to a TrendForce analyst.
According to the forecast, Apple’s 2022 iPhone range would be powered by a 4nm processor made by TSMC. This is likely to be called the A16 Bionic.
A narrower structure width will result in noticeable improvements in performance and efficiency. This should also increase battery life, which is a welcome upgrade to the iPhone experience.
No more iPhone mini
It was apparent that it was coming. After the disappointing sales of the iPhone 12 mini and the expectation of the iPhone 13 mini being the same, Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that Apple would discontinue the line in 2022.
The company claims that it offers only 6.1in and 6.7inversions of the Pro and base models.
