On 22 July, OnePlus unveiled the Nord 2, the successor to its affordable OnePlus Nord. Now that all specifications are known, it is clear what the Nord 2 offers and how it fits in the OnePlus lineup.
To help you decide which OnePlus device is right for you and whether the Nord 2 should be preferred over the flagship, we’ve compared the OnePlus Nord 2 to the OnePlus 9.
Design
The OnePlus Nord 2 is very similar to the OnePlus 9 in appearance. The OnePlus Nord 2 has a rectangular camera housing at the rear that houses two large lenses and one smaller below. There is also a flash located next to the smaller lens.
The power button and alert slider are located on the right edge. The volume rocker can be found on the left. The flat display’s top left corner features a punch hole single front camera. It does not have an official IP rating.
The OnePlus 9’s rectangular rear camera housing looks almost identical to the Nord 2, but the third lens is located centrally in the housing. It sits below the other lenses, and the flash is higher up, and Hasselblad branding is also included. It is slightly wider than the Nord 2.
The alert slider, power button, and volume rocker position is the same as that on the Nord 2. There is also a single punch hole camera at the top left of the flat display. The 9 does not have an official IP rating and, like the Nord 2, has a plastic frame and a glass rear.
The Nord 2 is nearly identical in physical dimensions to the OnePlus 9. However, it is slightly smaller, narrower, and slimmer.
Display
The OnePlus Nord 2 features a 6.43 inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080. This results in a pixel density at 410ppi.
OnePlus 9, however, is a 6.55-inch screen, slightly larger than the OnePlus Nord 2’s despite having a similar footprint. The OnePlus 9 boasts Full HD+ resolution and a 402ppi pixel density.
The refresh rate for the OnePlus 9 is 120Hz and that of the OnePlus Nord 2 is 90Hz. The OnePlus 9 has an underdisplay fingerprint sensor, while the Nord 2 has a 90Hz refresh rate.
Hardware and specifications
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI chipset is used by the OnePlus Nord 2. It’s said to perform similarly to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870. It can support up to 12GB RAM and up to 2TB of storage.
Under the hood is a 4500mAh capacity battery with support for 65W fast charge.
The OnePlus 9 is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. It can store up to 12GB RAM, and up to 256GB storage. The 4500mAh battery supports 65W fast charging and wireless charging. The Nord 2 does not offer wireless charging.
Cameras
The OnePlus Nord 2 features a triple rear camera. It includes a 50-megapixel main sensor, optical image stabilisation, and an aperture of f/1.88. An 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/2.25 and a 2-megapixel mono-lens with an aperture of f/2.5 are joined to the primary sensor.
The OnePlus 9 also features a triple camera. It includes a 48-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture. A 2-megapixel monochrome sensor is also included. Hasselblad tuning is also included.
The Nord 2 comes with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera, while the Nord 9 has a 16-megapixel one.
Conclusion
The OnePlus Nord 2 & OnePlus 9 have many similarities, including design, RAM options, and battery capacities.
The OnePlus 9 displays a larger display and has a faster refresh rate. It also offers wireless charging as a feature. Additionally, its chip will likely perform slightly better than the Nord 2’s. The fundamental difference between these models is likely to be in the camera department.
