We have a glimpse at what Samsung’s smartphone lineup looks like this year, thanks to the Samsung Galaxy S21 series launch at the end of January 2021.

The Galaxy Note 21 would have been the next major device. This phone has in the past improved the Galaxy S range and made it better in specific areas such as design and camera. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 has taken over the Note’s launch slot and the Z Fold 3 offers support for the S Pen like the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Is the Galaxy Note going to be discontinued? We have all the information we have so far on the next Galaxy Note. Depending on how the line develops, it is likely to be the Note 22 Ultra or the Note 22 Ultra.

Samsung may offer a new Galaxy Note if they decide to continue offering it. It is likely to arrive in 2022, rather than 2021 as its usual launch slot was taken by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Z Flip 3 devices.

Samsung has previously stated that it is committed to the Note series. However, launch timings could change. If this is true, then we may see the next Note before August 2022.

We expect Samsung to launch its next Note device (or devices) at the same price as before. We expect the Note 22 to be similar.

The main rumours about the Note 22 series revolved around whether it would be revealed, or what it would include. That is still the case.

Any future Note device, or any number of devices, will likely take design elements from other flagship Samsung devices like the S22 range, which is expected to launch first or around the same time.

A waterproof metal frame, sandwiched between two glass panels, and other interesting finishes are also possible. A built-in S Pen is a must. This would make it different from the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Galaxy Fold 3.

The Z Fold 3 has an under-display front camera. It’s possible that any future Note device will also use this technology. There won’t be a punch hole camera.

Samsung confirms that the next Note is on the way.

Display

Samsung’s adaptive 120Hz refresh rate display is standard on all Galaxy S21 models. It is likely that future Note models will also have this feature, as well as support for HDR10+. We don’t know the exact sizes of these models, but we expect them to be similar to the Note 20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, if they have two.

The Note 20’s flat display has Full HD+ resolution. The Note 20 Ultra has an ultra-curved display with Quad HD+ resolution. It wouldn’t surprise us to see a future Note model with a flat-screen to save costs. This option is available under the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Galaxy S22 Ultra and comes with either an S Pen or Z Fold 3 (with S Pen).

Camera

As of yet, there haven’t been any specific rumours about the future Note’s cameras. The only thing that has been mentioned is the possibility of an under-display front cam. This was also a feature that appeared on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in August, which had a 4-megapixel sensor.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Note arrived in 2021. However, now we’d probably be looking at S22 to better understand what to expect.

Hardware and specifications

  • Exynos 2100 and Qualcomm SD888 successors
  • Most likely, at least 8GB RAM
  • Large battery

The processors that will power the next Samsung Galaxy Note are likely to be the Exynos 2100 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipsets. This depends on where you live and the launch date. We’re likely to see at least 8GB RAM and 12GB RAM on the next Note Ultra model.

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Galaxy S21 series dropped microSD support for storage extension.

The next Note series will likely feature large batteries. We expect the Samsung Galaxy S21 series to have a range of 4000mAh to 5000mAh capacities. However, we think it will be at least 4000mAh for the next Galaxy Note.
