According to a report, Samsung will reduce the battery capacity of its flagship Galaxy S-series smartphone in 2022. This includes the standard Galaxy S22.

It will result in the Galaxy S22’s capacity dropping to 3700mAh, if the information is correct. This is 300mAh less than the 4000mAh standard Galaxy S21 battery.

Original publication in Dutch by GalaxyClub. The report also claims that the Galaxy S22+’s battery has 4500mAh, compared to 4800mAh for the S21+.

It appears that the S22 Ultra is the most popular of the three models in this series and it will have the same size battery as its predecessor.

The possibility of smaller batteries is not encouraging, particularly in Samsung phones that have in the past struggled to match competitors’ battery life.

The introduction of an OLED display that is more efficient has led to claims that the S22+ and S22+ will perform at similar levels to the S21+ and S21+.

They may actually last longer if they live up to their promise of 25 per cent energy savings. A new processor may also mean less power consumption depending on its architecture.

These rumours may be true or false. However, a Samsung screen with a higher efficiency and a faster processor will not experience any adverse effects from a smaller battery. It doesn’t look perfect on a spec sheet.
