Evidence of Second Generation Google Tensor Chipset Surfaces Planned for Pixel 7
Google has shown evidence that it is currently developing and testing the next generation Tensor chips. This means that a Google-made platform will likely power next year’s Pixel.
App code for the Pixel 6 was found to contain references to the second generation Tensor and the code name “Cloudripper”.
It’s not the code name for the processor, but it is claimed that this code name is the code name of the board it’s attached to. The publication also found evidence that a chip model number GS201 is connected to the board.
The Pixel 6’s chipset is numbered GS101, so the GS201 may be the 2nd gen Tensor chip.
The Pixel 7 launch is still 12 months away. No other details have been discovered on the next-gen Tensor. It exists, which means that it will likely power the phone Google launches next year.
No one will be surprised to learn that Google is already developing a second-generation version of its Tensor processor. It was very proud that it now owns its own platform at the Pixel 6 launch event and believes it is the future for its brand phones.
We’d be surprised if the company didn’t already work on Tensor Gen 2, given the amount of time required to design, tweak, and optimise components.
